The WS1095/WS1098 USB serial driver as Whistler published it: one INF file that points Windows' built-in usbser.sys at the scanner's serial (CDC) interface, USB\VID_2A59&PID_000E&MI_01. Needed for EZ-Scan and the CPU/DSP updaters; the same INF is also installed by EZ-Scan.
Read before installing. Unsigned INF: Windows 10/11 may refuse it unless driver signature enforcement is disabled.

Whistler WS1095/WS1098 USB serial driver (INF, 2018-08-20)
==========================================================
WHAT THIS IS
------------
The WS1095/WS1098 USB driver that Whistler published on its downloads page
(zip uploaded 2021-10-20; the INF inside is dated 2018-08-20). It is a single
Windows INF file, derived from Microchip's CDC template (its DriverVer line
still reads 11/15/2007, 5.1.2600.0), that binds Windows' own usbser.sys to the
scanner's serial interface:
USB\VID_2A59&PID_000E&MI_01 -> "Whistler WS1095 Serial Device"
The scanner is a composite USB device: its memory card appears as a card
reader without any driver, and this INF is needed only for the serial port EZ-
Scan and the firmware updaters use. EZ-Scan's installer places the same driver
in its Drivers folder, so this standalone copy matters mainly when Windows has
lost or replaced the driver.
APPLIES TO
----------
Whistler WS1095/WS1098.
The hardware ID in the INF is model-specific; it will not bind to other
models. An un-upgraded GRE PSR-800 uses GRE's own INF (GRECOM_PSR-800.inf,
USB\VID_0C97&PID_0008&MI_01), which is installed by GRE's EZ Scan Digital.
BEFORE STARTING
---------------
- A Windows PC and the scanner's USB cable.
- On Windows 10/11, the INF is unsigned (it names a catalog file, mchpcdc.cat,
that is not supplied). RadioReference owners report needing to boot with
driver signature enforcement disabled to install it. A WS1088 without the
driver appears only as a card reader.

INSTALLATION
------------
1. Unzip the file to a folder.
2. Connect the scanner by USB and switch it on (or connect it in the state
EZ-Scan expects).
3. In Device Manager, find the scanner's unknown serial/CDC device (the
card-reader half installs on its own).
4. Update driver > Browse my computer > point to the unzipped folder. Accept
the warning about an unsigned driver if Windows offers it; if Windows
refuses outright, restart with driver signature enforcement disabled and
repeat.
5. The device appears under Ports (COM & LPT) as the name above. Note the COM
number for the CPU updater.
The exact Windows prompts depend on the Windows version and were not recorded.
VERIFYING
---------
Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) lists "Whistler WS1095 Serial Device
(COMn)". EZ-Scan connects to the radio without a port error.
IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG
-----------------------
- Only a card reader appears: the serial interface has no driver. Install as
above.
- Windows Update replaced the driver or only some USB ports work (a known
complaint on this platform): reinstall this INF on the port in use.
- The port exists but EZ-Scan cannot talk to the radio: close any other
program holding the COM port.
DOWNGRADING
-----------
Nothing to downgrade: this is the only driver version Whistler published. To
remove it, uninstall the device in Device Manager.
