WHAT THIS IS
------------
Whistler's EZ-Scan programming software for the WS1095/WS1098, version
2.51.0.707, as the vendor's Windows installer (NSIS). EZ-Scan programs the
scanner, prepares the SD/microSD card, downloads the RadioReference Library
and location database, and checks for and installs CPU and DSP firmware.
The program files inside are dated 2026-04-24, the same build round as the
WS1080 installer, which settles the WS1095 volume's open question: the WS-
series app was refreshed in April 2026. Earlier installers named on Whistler's
pages (2.40.0.646, 2.44.0.669, 2.50.0.692) are recorded in PROVENANCE.md.
Library updates: the Library is RadioReference data, licensed to Whistler and
updated weekly through EZ-Scan's own update check. It is not part of this
archive. Updates stopped when Whistler closed (last Whistler-era build v894,
November 2024) and resumed under Goliad Products from about 2025-02-22, apart
from a one-day server outage on 2026-06-23/24.

Whistler WS1095 and WS1098 base/mobile scanners. Not for the WS1080/WS1088 or
the TRX-2 (which has its own EZ-Scan).
BEFORE STARTING
---------------
- A Windows PC. The Windows versions supported were not stated by the vendor.
- The scanner's USB cable. The radio appears to Windows as a composite device:
a card reader (no driver needed) and a serial port (needs the Whistler
driver the installer places in Drivers\).
- A copy of the whole memory card, and a note of the CPU, DSP and Library
versions, before any update.
- On a vehicle-installed base/mobile set, update on the AC adapter or a bench
supply, not the vehicle circuit.

INSTALLATION
------------
1. Run the installer and follow the NSIS setup wizard. The wizard's exact
screens were not recorded.
2. Install the USB driver from the installation's Drivers folder if Windows
does not pick it up. The driver is unsigned; RadioReference owners report
needing to disable driver signature enforcement on Windows 10/11 before it
will install.
3. Connect the scanner by USB. The memory card mounts as a removable drive;
EZ-Scan finds it and the serial port.
4. Use the program's update check to fetch Library and firmware updates. For
firmware: power the scanner off before connecting; the GRE-platform
procedure (documented in the WS1080 manual) is Update > Check for CPU
Firmware Update > Check for Updates > Update My Scanner, wait for "Done",
then the same for Check for DSP Firmware Update.
5. Eject the card drive in Windows before unplugging, and power off before
connecting or disconnecting external power, or the card can corrupt.
VERIFYING
---------
EZ-Scan shows the program version in its About box and reports the connected
radio's model and firmware versions. On the radio, the CPU/DSP versions are
shown from the power-up welcome screen (see the CPU updater entries).
IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG
-----------------------
- "no removable drives found": the wrong EZ-Scan for the radio (for example
GRE's software on an upgraded PSR-800), or the card not mounted.
- Card corruption during slow USB writes is a known problem on this platform.
Update the card in a card reader instead; it is also faster.
- Windows Update replacing the USB driver, or only some USB ports working:
reinstall the driver from the Drivers folder.
- A failed firmware update: hold MENU while plugging in the USB cable to force
CPU update mode and retry, or use the standalone CPU updater for the model
(in this archive).
- SSL or socket errors on update checks were seen when Whistler's servers
lapsed in late 2024; they have worked under Goliad since February 2025.
DOWNGRADING
-----------
An older EZ-Scan can be installed over or instead of a newer one; the
installer does not block it. Older versions of this model's installer that
survive are listed in this archive's version table or in PROVENANCE.md.
Whether an older EZ-Scan reads a configuration saved by a newer one was not
documented.
