Download zip (1.5 MB) Manufacturer's page ↗

Whistler's standalone DSP firmware updater (DSPUpdate.exe, 'Whistler DSP Updater' 3.2 build 105, 2018), offered on the Whistler-era downloads pages of the WS1080/WS1088, WS1095/WS1098, TRX-1, TRX-2, TRX-1E and TRX-2E. The same file (identical SHA-256) was served from Whistler's Shopify file host and its Dropbox.

Read before installing. Not offered on Goliad's 2026 page; Whistler's legacy page said DSP firmware for upgraded PSR-800/PRO-18/PRO-668 must go through EZ-Scan. The on-screen procedure could not be confirmed.

Whistler DSP Updater 3.2 build 105
==================================

WHAT THIS IS
------------
Whistler's standalone DSP firmware updater, DSPUpdate.exe. Its version
resource reads "Whistler DSP Updater", file version 3.2.0.105, product version
"3.2 Build 105", copyright 2018 Whistler Group; the executable is code-signed
and was built 2018-07-12.

Whistler listed it as "DSP (DSPUpdate.exe)" or "DSP Updater" on the downloads
pages of every WS and TRX model from 2018 to 2024. One file served all of them
(the same SHA-256 on Whistler's Shopify file host and Dropbox, and the same
size on the TRX-E pages). Whether "3.2" is the DSP firmware version it loads
or only the tool's version is not stated; owners reported DSP 3.2 as current
on the TRX in 2021, and a TRX-2E at DSP 3.2 in 2023.

The documented DSP route is EZ-Scan's "Check for DSP Firmware Update".
Goliad's 2026 downloads page no longer offers this file, and Whistler's
legacy-upgrade page said DSP firmware for upgraded PSR-800/PRO-18/PRO-668
radios "must be updated via the EZ Scan app".

APPLIES TO
----------
Listed by Whistler for the WS1080, WS1088, WS1095, WS1098, TRX-1, TRX-2,
TRX-1E and TRX-2E. How the utility tells the models apart (for example by
querying the radio) could not be determined from the file.

Not listed for legacy-upgraded PSR-800/PRO-18/PRO-668 radios, and not for any
un-upgraded GRE or RadioShack radio.

BEFORE STARTING
---------------
- A Windows PC with the model's USB serial driver installed; the mini-USB or
  USB cable.
- Fresh batteries or a solid supply; a copy of the memory card; a note of the
  current CPU and DSP versions.
- EZ-Scan for the model, which is the route Whistler documented; use this
standalone updater only if EZ-Scan's DSP update fails.

INSTALLATION
------------
The exact on-screen procedure of this utility could not be confirmed: it is a
packed, signed executable and no Whistler instructions for it were found. It
contains a port-selection window, so it talks to the radio over the USB serial
port like the CPU updaters.

 1. Close EZ-Scan and any program using the scanner's COM port.
 2. Connect the scanner by USB (the state the utility expects, normal or
update mode, is not documented; follow its prompts).
 3. Run DSPUpdate.exe, select the scanner's COM port and follow the prompts.

VERIFYING
---------
Check the DSP version at the power-up welcome screen (see the CPU updater
entries for the key) or in EZ-Scan after connecting.

IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG
-----------------------
- If the DSP update fails, retry through EZ-Scan's Check for DSP Firmware
Update, which is the vendor-documented path.
- The platform's general recovery for firmware trouble is to hold MENU while
plugging in USB (CPU update mode) and reload the model's CPU updater; the
DSP is then reloaded through EZ-Scan.
- "Waiting For Main Unit" on a TRX-2/WS1095-class base (the head cannot reach
the base) was reported during the 2016 DMR update; reported fixes are a
30-second power-button reset, SanDisk cards, cleaning the head contacts and
running the head on the LAN cable (unconfirmed).

DOWNGRADING
-----------
No older standalone DSP updater was found, and Whistler did not document
downgrading DSP firmware.
