Uniden's USB virtual serial-port driver (INF dated 1 January 2014, version 1.0.0.0). It contains no driver binary: it points Windows' own usbser.sys at Uniden USB IDs VID_1965 PID_0016-001A so the scanner's Serial Port USB mode appears as "Uniden Serial Port (COMx)". Uniden links it from the BCD536HP support page.
Read before installing. Needed only for the scanner's Serial Port USB mode (ProScan, remote-control software), not for Sentinel, which uses Mass Storage mode. The SDS100's serial-mode ID (PID_001A, as posted by a Uniden representative on RadioReference) is in the INF; the SDS200's serial-mode ID could not be confirmed. Windows 10/11 generally load usbser.sys for such devices without this file; RadioReference owners report it being needed on Windows 7.

WHAT THIS IS
------------
Uniden USB serial port driver (uniden_usbser, 2014). The signed .inf/.cat
driver that makes a Uniden scanner in USB Serial mode appear as 'Uniden Serial
Port (COMx)'. Uniden publishes the same zip, byte for byte, as
Windows_Serial_Drivers.zip on the BCD536HP page and as
Windows_8.x_Serial_Drivers.zip on the HomePatrol pages.
The .inf carries DriverVer 01/01/2014, version 1.0.0.0. It contains no driver
binary: it points Windows' own usbser.sys at Uniden USB IDs VID_1965 PID_0016
to PID_001A. Uniden attached the HomePatrol copy on 4 February 2014 under the
heading "Serial Drivers for Windows 8" (the HomePatrol-1's ID, PID_0016, is in
the list).

Uniden scanners whose USB Serial mode uses IDs VID_1965 PID_0016 to PID_001A.
Uniden's own pages offer it for the BCD436HP, BCD536HP and HomePatrol; the
SDS100's ID (PID_001A) was posted by a Uniden representative on
RadioReference, and the SDS200's could not be confirmed. HomePatrol Serial
mode needs the paid Extreme upgrade. The INF's comments name Windows XP to
Windows 8; Windows 10 and 11 generally load usbser.sys for such devices
without it.
BEFORE STARTING

- Only needed for Serial mode. Mass Storage mode (firmware, database and
Sentinel work) uses Windows' built-in storage driver.
- Unzip the file to a folder the PC can browse to.

INSTALLATION
------------
From Uniden's BCD536HP page:
1. Download and unzip the driver.
2. Plug in the scanner with the USB cable and select Serial mode.
3. Right-click the Windows Start icon and select Device Manager.
4. The device shows with a yellow triangle. Right-click it and select Update
Driver Software.
5. Choose to browse the computer for the driver software.
6. Navigate to the unzipped folder (select uniden_usbser.inf when prompted).
VERIFYING
---------
Device Manager lists the scanner as "Uniden Serial Port (COMx)", where x is
the assigned port number.
IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG
-----------------------
- If Windows does not prompt for a driver, use the Device Manager route above.
- Uniden notes some steps differ slightly between Windows versions.
DOWNGRADING
-----------
For Windows XP/Vista/7 with a HomePatrol-1, Uniden also publishes older .inf
files (HomePatrol_Serial_Drivers.zip).
