WHAT THIS IS
------------
Uniden HomePatrol-1 firmware 2.06.03. HomePatrol-1 firmware 2.06.03 as a .scn
file, from the 2.06 series that is the last firmware line for the
HomePatrol-1. Uniden's change log describes the 2.06 update only as general
performance improvements. The file inside is dated 17 July 2014.
Uniden's HomePatrol-1 update log, newest first: 2.06(06) general performance
improvements; 2.05.03 (19 May 2014) ATTEN and GPS status indication, a
Conventional Discovery hang on P25 control channels, P25 performance; 2.03.01
(5 July 2012); 2.02 (7 January 2012) the Extreme update/upgrade features;
2.01; 2.00 with the Extreme upgrade; 1.03.01 (12 May 2011); 1.02.00 (13
September 2010). Every update includes the fixes of the ones before it.
APPLIES TO
----------
The Uniden HomePatrol-1 (silver front panel) only. Never load it on a
HomePatrol-2 (black front panel), which uses different firmware.
BEFORE STARTING
---------------
- HomePatrol Sentinel 2.03.02 installed and working.
- Fully charged batteries or external power; never update on weak batteries.
- Save a profile or read the Favorites Lists into Sentinel first (HomePatrol >
Read from HomePatrol).
- The normal route is Sentinel's UPDATE > Update Firmware, which fetches the
newest HomePatrol-1 firmware from Uniden's server by itself.

INSTALLATION
------------
Uniden's documented method is Sentinel:
1. Connect the HomePatrol-1 to the PC with the USB cable and turn it on;
choose Mass Storage if asked.
2. In HomePatrol Sentinel select UPDATE > Update Firmware and follow the
prompts.
3. Disconnect the USB cable. The HomePatrol applies the update and reboots; do
not turn it off meanwhile.
Uniden has published no procedure for installing a .scn file by hand.
HomePatrol Sentinel's own messages show that it writes the firmware file into
the card's \firmware folder and that "After you disconnect the USB cable, the
firmware update will begin"; copying this .scn file to that folder is
therefore the likely manual route, but it could not be confirmed from a Uniden
source.
VERIFYING
---------
On the HomePatrol-1, open the menu's scanner-information screen, which lists
the firmware version. The exact menu path could not be confirmed; Sentinel
also reports the connected unit's firmware version.
IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG
-----------------------
- If the scanner reports SD card errors, back up what can be saved, format the
card with the SD Memory Card Formatter (Overwrite format), run Clear User
Data in Sentinel (tick show all drives), then Update Firmware and write the
database.
- Use a name-brand card of 32 GB or smaller.
- Turn the scanner off before unplugging external power; some settings are
saved only at power-down.
DOWNGRADING
-----------
No Uniden-documented downgrade exists. Sentinel installs the newest firmware
on its server, which may be newer than 2.06.03.
